ROSOWA Calls for More Women in Uniform to Promote Equality, Justice

The Road Safety Officers’ Wives Association (ROSOWA) has advocated for increased representation of women in uniform, emphasizing the need for equality, justice, and women’s rights in security and paramilitary agencies.

Speaking at the 5th edition of Women in Uniform, organized by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) FCT Command in Abuja to commemorate the 2025 UN International Women’s Day, ROSOWA President, Dr. Nafisat Shehu-Mohammed, highlighted the challenges women in uniform continue to face, including sexism, harassment, and discrimination.

“As women in uniform, we are no strangers to challenges and adversity. We have faced obstacles, overcome barriers, and pushed beyond our limits to serve our communities, our country, and the world,” she said.

Dr. Shehu-Mohammed also reaffirmed ROSOWA’s commitment to promoting road safety awareness, particularly among young people, and discouraging underage driving. She called on governments, organizations, and individuals to take concrete actions to ensure greater representation of women in uniform, stressing that this was essential for building a more just and equitable society.

Former Senator Abiodun Olujimi, in her remarks, praised the contributions of women in uniform to national security, development, and peacebuilding. She urged for the creation of policies that support career advancement, protect against discrimination and harassment, and provide opportunities for skill acquisition, further education, and mentorship.

Also speaking at the event, retired Deputy Corps Marshal (DCM) of the FRSC, Ojeme Ewhrudjakpor, encouraged women in uniform to strive for excellence, break barriers, and balance their personal and professional lives. She urged them to support one another, emphasizing that “a win for one woman is a win for all.”

The event reinforced the need for accelerated action in promoting gender equality within uniformed professions, in line with the 2025 UN International Women’s Day theme: “Accelerate Action.”
