President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians, particularly residents of Borno State, not to succumb to fear following a recent terrorist attack by Boko Haram on the Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to families of victims affected by the assault.

According to the statement, the President mourned the loss of innocent lives, including members of the military and civilians caught in crossfire during an aerial operation carried out by the Nigerian Air Force while pursuing fleeing terrorists.

“The President mourns the loss of innocent lives, including military personnel, and those caught in friendly fire during the aerial interdiction of fleeing terrorists by the Air Force,” the statement said.

Tinubu described the attack as a “heartless assault on helpless citizens” and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to combating terrorism and safeguarding communities across the country.

Despite the tragic loss, the President commended the swift response of the Nigerian military, noting that their actions led to the elimination of several terrorists and forced the insurgents to retreat.

“He commended the armed forces for their swift response, which resulted in the killing of scores of terrorists and their subsequent forced retreat,” the statement added.

Tinubu also directed the military and other security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue victims abducted during the attack.

Furthermore, the President instructed the armed forces to strengthen operations aimed at protecting civilians nationwide and preventing further attacks on military facilities, particularly in the North-East region.

He also offered prayers for the souls of those who lost their lives in the attack and the subsequent military operation, while extending his sympathies to the affected families and the Borno State Government.
