The Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) has called for a thorough investigation into social media personality Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, over allegations that she falsely claimed to have cancer to solicit financial assistance from the public.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the society’s spokesperson, Bashir Mohammed, expressed concern that the alleged actions may have misled well-meaning Nigerians who donated funds under the belief they were supporting a genuine medical case.

Mohammed noted that recent developments have raised doubts about the authenticity of the claims, sparking calls for accountability, possible refunds, and a comprehensive investigation, given the sensitive nature of cancer-related appeals.

The NCS condemned the alleged conduct, describing it as unethical and harmful to ongoing efforts aimed at supporting cancer patients nationwide.

According to the organisation, exploiting a serious illness such as cancer for personal gain could erode public trust and discourage support for individuals who genuinely require medical assistance.

Mohammed added that the society would engage relevant security agencies to probe the matter and ensure appropriate action is taken if the allegations are substantiated.

He also urged Nigerians to exercise caution when responding to online fundraising campaigns and to verify such appeals through credible channels, including the NCS, which operates a structured system for patient support and assistance.
