Nollywood actress Evan Okoro, best known for her breakout role as Doctor Maria in Sexy Investment, has gone public with disturbing allegations against her estranged husband, claiming that he has threatened her life and continues to endanger her safety following the collapse of their marriage.

In an emotional video posted on her social media, the actress tearfully revealed that she has been living in fear since her husband allegedly vowed to kill her if she ever left him.

“If you leave me, I will kill you,” Okoro quoted him as saying, noting that she has already filed a petition with the police regarding the threat.

Reflecting on the breakdown of her marriage, Okoro described the union as a painful mistake.

“This marriage is not working. The shoe I took home is not my size. They didn’t pay my bride price, and my family had to call them recently to do it properly,” she said.

According to her, the relationship turned toxic when her husband began to exert control over her finances and displayed aggression. She narrated how he attempted to seize money she earned during a recent business trip to Lagos and became violent when she refused.

“He didn’t even check on me after my trip. It’s been over two weeks,” she added.

Okoro also alleged that her husband had emotionally and physically withdrawn from the relationship and failed to provide any form of support. Despite reporting his behaviour to his family, no changes were made.

“He’s jealous of my success,” she claimed, addressing speculations that he planned to kidnap her after she posted about building her house.

“I built that house myself. I started it before he came into my life,” she clarified, visibly shaken in her video.

She explained that she was not seeking financial assistance but speaking out for her own safety.

“If I keep living like this, I will go down six feet. I’m not asking anyone for money. I just want to finish my house and focus on my life,” she said.

The video sparked a wave of reactions across social media. While many commended her bravery for speaking out, others questioned her choice of partner.

“I like the fact she’s speaking out. People will laugh today, laugh tomorrow but won’t laugh forever,” wrote an Instagram user.
“She’s not ready to die in silence. That’s strength,” another added.

Others, however, were critical:

“When she used money to buy a husband, what did she think would happen?” one tweet read, pointing fingers at her decision to continue with the relationship despite known red flags.

Despite mixed opinions, many applauded her for choosing her safety over societal expectations.

“Marriage is not easy. That’s why you need to be careful while choosing a life partner,” a user on X (formerly Twitter) posted.

“If anything happens to me, let the world know I cried out,” Okoro said in a chilling conclusion. “I did everything to make the marriage work, but my life comes first now.”
