The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has approved the recruitment of 500 qualified teachers into the State Civil Service as part of his administration’s ongoing reforms to revitalize and strengthen the education sector.
According to a statement, the recruitment marks the first batch of new teachers to be employed under the state’s Teacher Recruitment and Deployment Policy Guidelines (TRDPG), following a rigorous selection process overseen by the Zamfara State Committee for Teacher Recruitment and Deployment (TRD).
The Chairman of the Zamfara State Civil Service Commission and Recruitment Committee, Aliyu Mohammed Tukur, revealed that a total of 11,708 candidates submitted applications through the state’s online recruitment portal.
Out of these, 8,184 applicants met the eligibility criteria and were screened, while 3,105 participated in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) conducted under strict supervision.
Based on a 40% performance benchmark, 1,033 candidates qualified for oral interviews, from which 500 were finally selected for appointment.
Tukur emphasized that the recruitment focused on core teaching subjects, including, English Language and Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, Computer Studies/ICT and Entrepreneurship, Agricultural Science, Home Economics, and Animal Husbandry
The committee commended the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and its agencies for their dedication, coordination, and commitment throughout the recruitment process.
According to the statement, the exercise represents a major milestone in addressing the shortage of qualified teachers and improving the quality of education in public schools across Zamfara State.
Aliyu Tukur also confirmed that the newly recruited teachers will receive their appointment letters soon, after which they will be deployed to schools, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
