The 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital has held a special event to mark the International Day of Radiology and World Radiography Day 2025, commemorating the historic discovery of X-rays by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen on November 8, 1895.

The annual celebration recognizes the vital role of radiographers and radiology professionals in improving patient care, diagnosis, and medical innovation.

Delivering a goodwill message, the Acting Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Brigadier General Godwin Ogoh, emphasized the importance of teamwork and mutual coexistence among the radiology department and other hospital units to ensure the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.

Brig. Gen. Ogoh who was represented by Lt. Colonel Ugwunna Agwuoche, reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to maintaining a strong equipment maintenance culture for efficient service delivery.

The Head of the Nigerian Army Department of Radio Diagnostic Centre, Colonel Jude Dimkpa, said the event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of radiology in modern healthcare and to celebrate advances achieved in the field.

He also urged the government to ensure that only qualified professionals are involved in the procurement and management of radiology equipment.

In their presentations, the hospital’s Radiation Safety Officer, Dr. Juliet Nwoke, and a Professor of Nanotechnology and Medical Physics, Professor Bashir Kayode, called for proactive strategies to prevent long periods of equipment downtime in Nigerian hospitals.
