Nollywood icon Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has called for courageous and selfless leadership in Nigeria, urging those in positions of authority to be willing to make difficult decisions, even at great personal cost for the good of the nation.

Speaking on Channels Television on Sunday while commenting on the 2027 general elections, the actress expressed concern over Nigeria’s current challenges, despite the country’s abundant resources and vast potential.

According to Omotola, Nigeria possesses natural and human resources that many nations envy, yet meaningful progress has remained elusive due to poor leadership and lack of accountability.

“I wish our leaders were bold enough to make decisions that could truly liberate this country, even if it meant dying for Nigeria,” she said.

She noted that no country is immune to disorder, citing the United States as an example, and stressed that law, order, and accountability are essential to national stability. According to her, societies function properly only when laws are respected and enforced without compromise.

Omotola also criticised political rhetoric that she described as insincere and misleading, lamenting what she sees as a pattern of empty promises made to Nigerians during election seasons.

“We have heard people come out to say, ‘I love Nigeria.’ I was poor. I did not even have shoes. These are all lies. They do not care,” she added.

Her comments come amid increasing public discourse on leadership quality and governance as Nigeria prepares for another election cycle. Omotola’s remarks underscore growing calls from public figures for integrity, accountability, and genuine sacrifice in public office ahead of 2027.
