Gunmen Kill Fulani Leader in Ilorin, Authorities Vow Justice

The Kwara State Police Command has launched an investigation into the assassination of Alhaji Idris Abubakar Sakaina, the state chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the chairman was shot dead on March 8, 2025, at around 10 PM at the entrance of his residence in the Oke-Ose area of Ilorin.

Police detectives, responding swiftly to the crime scene, recovered five expended 7.62mm shells. The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has since taken over the case, with authorities vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice. The police also urged the public to remain calm and provide any useful information that could aid the investigation.

Reacting to the tragedy, the Kwara State chapter of MACBAN expressed deep shock over the killing. In a statement signed by the association’s state secretary, AbdulAzeez Muhammed, the Fulani leader (Ardon Ardodi) in Kwara, Alhaji Ojonla Mahmud, called on security agencies to track down the attackers and ensure justice is served.

The association also appealed to the state government to support the bereaved family, particularly in providing quality education for the deceased’s children and improving their welfare.

Alhaji Idris Abubakar Sakaina was laid to rest in Zango, Ilorin, in accordance with Islamic rites.
