A section of the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation complex in Abuja was engulfed by fire on Monday, causing panic among workers and prompting an emergency response.
Eyewitnesses said thick smoke was first noticed billowing from one part of the building before the situation escalated, forcing staff members to evacuate the affected area.
The fire reportedly started in Section C of the building within the Head of Service complex.
Workers in the building were seen moving away from the scene as emergency responders were alerted to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the facility.
Confirming the development, the Media Department of the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation said the fire was restricted to Section C and that emergency officials were already working to bring the situation under control.
“The fire outbreak occurred in Section C of the building and is currently being attended to by emergency responders,” the department said in a brief statement.
Officials added that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Authorities are expected to commence a full investigation into the incident once the situation has been completely contained.
No casualties have been confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
