Rivers Assembly begins Screening of Commissioner Nominees

Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly has commenced the screening of commissioner nominees forwarded by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

 

The nominees were ushered into the legislative chamber as part of the constitutional process required before their possible confirmation as members of the State Executive Council.

 

A total of nine nominees appeared before the lawmakers during the ongoing screening exercise. They include Datonye Alasia, Tonye Bellgam, Temple Nwofor, Peters Nwagor, Mrs. Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, Lekue Kenneth, Otonye TKD Amachree, and Amairigha Hart.

 

Speaking at the commencement of the session, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly said the exercise was aimed at assessing the nominees’ competence, experience, and readiness to serve the state.

 

“This screening is part of our constitutional responsibility to ensure that individuals nominated to serve as commissioners possess the capacity and integrity required to deliver on government policies,” the Speaker said.

 

Lawmakers are expected to question the nominees on their professional backgrounds, vision for their respective ministries, and strategies for supporting the development agenda of the administration.

 

The screening exercise forms part of efforts by Governor Fubara to strengthen governance and fill key positions in the state cabinet.
