Governor, Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He made the announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

The development comes shortly after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with the governor in a closed-door session at the State House, Abuja,

Fubara’s defection follows heightened political tension in Rivers State and growing speculation over his future within the PDP.

It also comes on the heels of the defection of 17 Rivers State House of Assembly members, loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, from the PDP to the APC.

The mass movement of lawmakers has shifted the balance of power in the state assembly and further deepened uncertainty surrounding the governor’s political direction.
