The Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed the election of Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected Governor of Edo State.

In a unanimous judgment delivered by a five-man panel led by Justice Mohammed Garba Lawal, the apex court dismissed the appeal filed against Okpebholo’s victory for lacking merit.

The appellants had challenged the election on grounds of alleged non-compliance with the Electoral Act, unlawful votes, and claims that the APC candidate was not lawfully elected. However, the court ruled that the petitioners failed to substantiate their claims.

This decision upholds the earlier verdict of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which had also dismissed the case and declared Okpebholo’s election valid.
