The Federal Government has says it is commitment to strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as part of efforts to empower Nigerian youths, promote self-reliance, and reduce unemployment across the country.
The Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmad Sa’id, made this known during an inspection visit to Bayero University, Kano (BUK). She said the initiative is designed to equip young Nigerians with practical vocational skills that will enable them to become self-employed and contribute to national development.
Professor Sa’id noted that thousands of graduates had already benefitted from the program and described TVET as a key driver for unlocking the potential of Nigeria’s youth population.
She expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded so far, revealing that there were currently about 150,000 training centers nationwide offering various skill acquisition programs.
The Minister added that the Federal Government would provide starter packs to trained beneficiaries to help them establish their own businesses and sustain the impact of the initiative.
Commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the program, Professor Sa’id said it would cover about 25 different vocational trades, and urged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity to achieve self-sufficiency and contribute to national growth.
The Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Haruna Musa — represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Ahmad Muhammad Tsauni — emphasized that technical and vocational education remained essential for Nigeria’s economic development.
He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting federal programs aimed at enhancing vocational education and skill development across the country.
