FG Releases Full List of 26 Approved Trade Courses Under Revised Technical Education Curriculum

Revised curriculum aligns with industry demand across tech, agriculture, construction, and creative sectors

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially unveiled the full list of 26 trade areas approved under its revised Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) curriculum, marking a major shift in the country’s technical education landscape.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Federal Ministry of Education, all Federal Science and Technical Colleges (FSTCs) will be converted to Federal Technical Colleges starting from the 2025/2026 academic session.

The statement, signed by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Ben Goong Folasade, explained that this overhaul is aimed at equipping Nigerian students with practical skills, digital competencies, and industry-relevant knowledge to meet the demands of the modern job market.

Key Highlights of the Revised TVET Curriculum

Announced by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, and Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, the revised curriculum requires:

  • Each Federal Technical College to offer a minimum of six and a maximum of ten trade areas
  • Students to take 9–10 subjects, including:
  • 1 core trade
  • 5–6 general education subjects
  • 2–3 trade-related subjects
  • 1 elective subject

Modern Trades for Future-Ready Skills

The Federal Ministry of Education stated that the curriculum update reflects Nigeria’s strategic focus on key sectors such as construction, energy, agriculture, automotive, ICT, and creative industries.

“The reform is designed to reduce curriculum overload, build strong trade competencies, align with global standards, and prepare young Nigerians for the jobs of the future,” the Ministry said.

The new curriculum also introduces Citizenship and Heritage Studies, in addition to core subjects in science and languages.

  4. Computer Hardware & GSM Repair and Maintenance
  5. Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Works
  6. Mechanised Agriculture (Mechanisation / Smart Agriculture)
  7. Autobody Works
  8. Catering Craft Practice
  9. Solar PV Installation and Maintenance
  10. Fashion Design and Garment Making
  11. Livestock Farming / Animal Husbandry
  12. Fish Farming (Aquaculture)
  13. Motorcycle & Tricycle Repairs
  14. Painting, Decoration and Finishes (Interior Design)
  15. Welding & Fabrication
  16. Auto-Electrical Wiring
  17. Automobile Mechanics
  18. Beauty Therapy & Cosmetology
  19. Creative Media (Digital Media Production / Operations)
  20. Electronic Systems Maintenance Craft
  21. Furniture Making & Upholstery
  22. Networking & System Security (Including Satellite TV Antenna Installation)
  23. Social Media Content Creation and Management
  24. Tiling & Cladding (Decorative Stonework / Floor-Cover Installation)
