Media personality Toke Makinwa has sparked widespread debate after declaring that men, not women, are the “biggest gold diggers in the world.”
Speaking on a new episode of her podcast, Toke Moments, she discussed relationships, financial expectations, and how people choose marriage partners.
Makinwa argued that many men deliberately seek out women from wealthy families because they want long-term financial security, and often do so boldly.
In her words: “People are constantly insulting women for knowing what they want. You sit on these podcasts as men and say women date for money, but men are the biggest gold diggers in the world. Men marry generational wealth, and they do it without shame. And I don’t hate on them.”
She added that she would even advise her own brother to prioritize financial stability when choosing a spouse.
“If my brother comes to me with two ladies and asks which one to marry, I will advise him to marry the one from a good financial background,” she said.
Her remarks had since fuelled conversations across social media about gender norms, money, and modern relationship expectations.
