Kano Taskforce Strengthens Fight Against Drug Abuse

In a bid to enhance peace restoration and youth rehabilitation in Kano State, the state government’s taskforce has intensified consultations with key stakeholders, including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Council of Ulamas.

The chairman of the taskforce, Dr. Yusuf Kofar Mata, who also serves as the Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, led the delegation. He emphasized that the committee’s goal is to identify areas for stronger collaboration in the fight against drug abuse and the rehabilitation of affected youth.

During a meeting with the NDLEA in Kano, Commandant Abubakar Idris Ahmed reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to the initiative, stating that its mandate aligns with the committee’s objectives. As a mark of recognition, the NDLEA decorated Dr. Kofar Mata and Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, as Anti-Drug Abuse Ambassadors for their dedication to combating social vices.

The taskforce also visited the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, where Dr. Kofar Mata highlighted the committee’s composition, which includes representatives from all security agencies in the state. He sought the Emir’s royal blessings and guidance. In response, the Emir commended the government’s efforts and assured the Emirate’s full support in achieving the taskforce’s objectives.

At the Council of Ulamas, the committee urged religious leaders to incorporate messages on the dangers of drug abuse and youth delinquency into their Ramadan Tafsir and Friday sermons. The appeal aimed to sensitize parents and community stakeholders on their role in preventing social vices.

Commissioner Waiya further revealed that the state’s SAFE CORRIDOR initiative has been integrated into the taskforce, ensuring a unified approach to making Kano a safer environment for all residents.
