An Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) delegation led by Honourable Sediko Douka, Commissioner for Infrastructure, Energy and Digitalization, embarked on a high-level mission to Senegal from July 3 to 4, 2025. The visit was aimed at revitalizing the Dakar–Bamako Railway, with a particular focus on the Phase 1 segment stretching from Dakar to Tambacounda.
The ECOWAS team, which also included the Director of Transport, Mr. Chris Appiah, and Acting Director of the ECOWAS Project Preparation and Development Unit (PPDU), Mr. Kebba Fye, engaged in strategic consultations with Senegalese authorities. Discussions also covered the Praia–Dakar–Abidjan Multimodal Corridor project — a major regional transport initiative designed to improve trade and mobility within West Africa.
On July 4, the delegation held a key meeting with Senegal’s Minister of Infrastructure, Transport and Aviation, Honourable Yankhoba Dieme. Commissioner Douka reaffirmed ECOWAS’ firm commitment to supporting member states in the execution of critical infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing service delivery and promoting regional integration.
In response, Minister Dieme reiterated the Government of Senegal’s priority to modernize the Dakar–Bamako Railway, beginning with the crucial Dakar–Tambacounda phase, which is expected to catalyze economic growth and ease cross-border transportation between Senegal and Mali.
