In a bid to strengthen procurement processes and align with international best practices, the Directorate of Administration and General Services of ECOWAS has commenced a three-day sensitization meeting on the organization’s Procurement Standard Documents.
The workshop, which kicked off this week, focuses on critical documents including the ECOWAS Procurement Code, Grant Code, their respective manuals, and associated annexes. These strategic documents are designed to ensure consistent interpretation, proper application, and strict adherence to donor-compliant procurement standards across all ECOWAS institutions and offices.
The sensitization exercise aims to foster a uniform understanding of procurement guidelines, clarify the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders, and ensure strict compliance with standard timelines within the procurement cycle.
Key participants at the session include officers from various ECOWAS directorates — notably Finance (B&T / FR&G / ITS), Legal Affairs, Human Resources, Infrastructure, and the Office of the Auditor-General. Also in attendance are representatives from the ECOWAS Parliament, Court of Justice, WAHO, GIABA, and specialized agencies such as ARAA, RCDC, PPDU, ECREEE, the Gender Centre, and the Water Resources Centre.
Declaring the workshop open, the Commissioner for Internal Services reaffirmed ECOWAS’s commitment to efficient, transparent, and accountable procurement systems that meet international donor standards. The meeting is being moderated by the Director of Administration and General Services.
This initiative marks another significant step in ECOWAS’s ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening governance, operational synergy, and institutional integrity within the regional bloc.
