Ondo records 12 cases of Mpox, begins vaccination

Amid rising global concerns about the spread of Mpox and its potential health risks, the Ondo State Government has begun vaccinating residents aged eighteen and above in eight pilot areas and other high-risk communities.

Director of Disease Control, Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (OSPHDA), Dr Victor Adefesoye, at a sensitisation’ meeting in Akure, the state capital, said the vaccination, which will run for ten days, from the 11th of August till the 21st of August.

Dr. Adefesoye noted that the vaccination would be in two stages and will be administered within an interval of twenty-eight days.

“The essence of this meeting is to help us inform people in your communities, religious groups, and organisations to take this vaccine.“

“So far, twelve cases of mpox had been discovered in eight council area. The disease is with us in Ondo State, particularly in these local government areas: Akoko South-West, Akoko North-West, Akoko North-East, Owo, Akure South, Akure North, Ondo East, and Odigbo.

“This vaccination process is different from previous vaccinations because we know the targeted people and we have contacted them.”

He encouraged the residents in the state to adopt good personal and environmental hygiene practices to create a healthier society.
