Nigerian Afropop sensation Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has finally unveiled his highly anticipated third studio album titled ‘Still The Mayor’. The new body of work officially dropped in the early hours of Friday, June 13, 2025, across all major music streaming platforms — ending weeks of eager anticipation from fans.
Originally slated for a May 2 release, the 12-track album faced an unexplained delay. However, the self-proclaimed ‘Mayor of Lagos’ made a surprise announcement on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account Thursday night, confirming the midnight release. “‘Still The Mayor’ arrives at midnight! Big ups to everyone who worked on this project with me. It’s a special one for many reasons,” he wrote.
The album boasts heavyweight collaborations from Afrobeats heavy-hitters and international stars including Fireboy DML, Davido, Rotimi, King Promise, Olivetheboy, and Gyakie. Notably, Fireboy DML makes a double appearance on the project — a rare highlight that fans have been quick to celebrate online.
Early standout tracks such as ‘Lose Control’ featuring King Promise, ‘Under The Canopy’, and ‘Therapist’ featuring Fireboy DML are already gaining significant buzz on social media and Afrobeats playlists.
Speaking on the album’s personal significance, Mayorkun described ‘Still The Mayor’ as a deeply reflective project capturing his evolution as an artist and individual. In an interview with 3MUSIC TV last Saturday, he said, “It’s still me, still the Mayor. But this time, I had more to say, more to express. Life’s been happening, and the music reflects that.”
The new release arrives more than three years after his sophomore effort ‘Back In Office’ and nearly seven years since his critically acclaimed debut ‘The Mayor of Lagos’, which cemented his place in Nigeria’s music industry.
Industry insiders predict that ‘Still The Mayor’ will quickly ascend both local and global Afrobeats charts, buoyed by its mix of matured lyricism, lush production, and Mayorkun’s signature urban-highlife fusion.
Fans have flooded social media with praise for the project’s sonic diversity and introspective themes, with many calling it Mayorkun’s most accomplished work yet.
Mayorkun, who first broke out in 2016 under Davido’s DMW label, has since built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most reliable hitmakers, blending pop, highlife, and contemporary Afrobeats.
