The Lagos State Government has re-arraigned convicted billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, on fresh murder charges involving the killings of two police officers in Festac Town.
Evans, alongside his co-defendant Joseph Emeka, appeared before Justice Oyindamola Ogala at the Lagos State High Court on a five-count charge bordering on murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
Evans Accused of Killing Two Policemen in 2013
According to the Lagos State prosecution, Evans and Emeka allegedly shot and killed two police officers—Peter Nweke and Chijioke Ngozi—on August 27, 2013, at about 10:00 p.m. in Festac Town, a residential area in Lagos known for past criminal activity. The offences are said to contravene Section 221 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2011.
This high-profile criminal case was transferred from Justice Adenike Coker to Justice Ogala’s court, prompting a fresh arraignment. State prosecutor A.O. Azeez informed the court of the transfer and emphasized the need for the defendants to take fresh pleas in line with the amended charges.
Evans Pleads Not Guilty Despite Ongoing Sentences
Despite previous attempts to secure a plea bargain, Evans and his co-defendant pleaded not guilty to all five counts. Evans is already serving multiple prison sentences for separate convictions related to kidnapping and violent crimes across Lagos and other parts of Nigeria.
The court adjourned the matter to November 19, 2025, for the commencement of trial and the issuance of witness summons.
