The Lagos State Government has announced that sections of the Lekki–Ajah corridor will be partially closed for eight months to allow for extensive rehabilitation and improvement worksdesigned to ease traffic congestion and enhance road safety.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the project will run from Saturday, November 15, 2025, to Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
Osiyemi explained that the rehabilitation, which had already begun with preliminary works, would be carried out in two phases to minimize disruptions to motorists and residents along the busy corridor.
According to him, the first phase will cover seven sections of the route. During this period, one lane will be closed to traffic while the other remains open. Once the first lane is completed, construction will shift to the opposite side.
“Motorists heading toward Lekki and Ajah will continue to have access throughout the construction,” Osiyemi assured.
For the second phase, vehicles moving from Ajah toward Lekki will be diverted to one lane while work continues on the other. “When the first lane is completed, work will shift to the second. At all times, movement toward Ajah will remain open,” the commissioner added.
Osiyemi further noted that some sections of the corridor will experience partial closures throughout the project duration.
He appealed for public cooperation, urging motorists to obey traffic officers and follow diversion signs.
“We urge road users to remain patient and cooperate with our officials. These repairs are part of the Lagos State Government’s ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure, reduce travel time, and ensure safer journeys for all,” he stated.
