Over 6,000 civil servants across Nigeria, the United Kingdom, India, Egypt, and the United Stateshave participated in the Federal Civil Service promotion examination for the director cadre, organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), Professor Adetunji Olaopa, disclosed this while monitoring the exercise at the JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre in Abuja.
Professor Olaopa explained that this marks the first time the Commission is adopting the CBT methodfor its promotional examinations. He expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the exercise and commended the collaboration with JAMB.
“It’s a small step but a very significant one for us. While computer-based tests are already popular, this is the first time the Federal Civil Service Commission is using this approach. We are confident because we’re partnering with JAMB, a sister institution with decades of experience,” he said.
The Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, lauded the FCSC for embracing innovation, describing the initiative as a bold and progressive step toward modernizing civil service examinations.
He reassured participants that the CBT format was user-friendly and accessible, noting that even basic computer literacy would suffice.
“If you can use a mobile phone, you can take this exam. It’s straightforward and doesn’t even require a mouse,” Oloyede said. “With this initiative, many civil servants will become more comfortable with digital tools.”
Also speaking, the Commissioner representing the FCT and Niger State at the FCSC, Dr. Hussaini Adamu, confirmed that the examination was conducted in multiple sessions to ensure orderliness and fairness.
The successful implementation of the CBT-based promotional exam signals a new digital era for the Federal Civil Service, aligning with the government’s drive toward transparency, efficiency, and technological advancement in public administration.
