Renowned Nigerian gospel singer, Bunmi Akinnaanu, widely known by the name of her hit song “Omije Ojumi,” has passed away.
Her death was announced on Instagram by fellow gospel artiste Ayo Melody, who shared the news on behalf of the family. The post, which included a photograph and a short video clip of the late singer, revealed that she died in a Lagos hospital.
“With great sadness we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye, popularly known as OMIJE OJUMI,” the statement read.
“She passed away at a Lagos hospital in Nigeria. May God grant her eternal rest.”
The family, however, did not disclose the cause of her death.
A few months before her death, Akinnaanu had publicly appealed for prayers after developing complications with her leg. During a church service at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan last year, a video surfaced showing the gospel singer seated with her leg stretched out while a cleric prayed for her.
In the footage, the pastor spoke about persistent bleeding in her leg and described the condition as a spiritual attack. Despite the concern surrounding her health, there has been no official confirmation linking the ailment to her death.
Bunmi Akinnaanu began singing at a young age and later made the bold decision to leave a banking career to pursue gospel music full-time.
She rose to national fame with her soul-lifting song “Omije Ojumi,” which became a favourite in churches and Christian homes across Nigeria. The track earned her the nickname by which she became popularly known.
She later released other notable songs, including “O Ti Sure,” further cementing her place in the Nigerian gospel music scene.
Tributes have continued to pour in from fans, colleagues, and church members who describe her as a passionate worshipper whose music touched lives.
