A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Cornelius Manzak Damulak, who was abducted in Abuja, has successfully escaped from his captors.
Rev. Damulak, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Shendam, Plateau State, and a student at Veritas University, Abuja, was kidnapped in the early hours of Thursday, February 6, 2025, from his residence in Zuma, Bwari Area Council, Abuja.
According to a statement released by the Niger State Police Command, the 36-year-old priest was found wandering along the Pogo-Paiko highway on Friday, February 14, 2025. A police patrol team attached to Chanchaga Division spotted him and immediately took him into their care.
“During interrogation, the victim was identified as Cornelius Damulak. It was revealed that he was abducted from his residence in Bwari, Abuja, and taken from one forest to another by his captors. Fortunately, he managed to escape on February 13, trekking a long distance before reaching Pogo-Paiko highway,” said SP Wasiu Abiodun, the police spokesperson.
Authorities confirmed that Rev. Damulak was taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to reunite him with his family.
The police have intensified investigations to track down the kidnappers and prevent further criminal activities in the region.
