Peter Obi Pledges ₦10 Million Donation to Afikpo Nursing College

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his commitment to education, healthcare, and youth empowerment as pillars of national development.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Obi recounted his visit to Mater Misericordiae College of Nursing Sciences in Afikpo, Ebonyi State. During his tour, he lauded the institution’s longstanding contributions to Nigeria’s healthcare sector.

“Established in 1946, Mater Misericordiae College of Nursing Sciences is one of Nigeria’s pioneering healthcare institutions. Its Schools of Nursing and Midwifery, founded in 1952 and 1953, have trained thousands of professionals who continue to play vital roles in the medical field,” Obi stated.

Recognizing the school’s ongoing infrastructural upgrades and its enrollment of about 1,000 students, Obi pledged his support for their efforts. He announced an initial donation of ₦10 million to aid the training of future healthcare professionals.

“The college currently has about 1,000 students and is undertaking several infrastructural upgrades. To support their efforts, I reaffirmed my commitment to collaborating with them in training Nigerian healthcare professionals and made an initial donation of ₦10 million,” he said.

Addressing the students, Obi highlighted the crucial role of healthcare in human development and commended medical practitioners for their contributions to national progress. He encouraged students to stay committed to their studies, emphasizing the growing global demand for skilled healthcare workers.

He also praised the institution’s staff for their dedication and acknowledged the Ebonyi State Government for its collaboration with the school in advancing healthcare education.

“I appreciate the Ebonyi State Government for working alongside the institution in the shared interest of the state and the nation,” he added.

Obi’s visit underscores his advocacy for healthcare and education as essential drivers of sustainable national development.
