Veteran Nollywood star Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has stirred conversation online after revealing that she once received a car as a gift, even while married.
Speaking during an interview on Naija FM 102.7, the award-winning actress addressed long-standing debates about gender influence in Nollywood. She firmly dismissed claims that women do not dominate the film industry, insisting instead that they are its driving force.
“Women are the ones who hold Nollywood,” she said.
According to the screen icon, many female actors are far more than performers. She explained that several actresses successfully juggle acting with entrepreneurship, brand influencing, film production, and even full-time careers outside entertainment.
“Most of the women I know are running businesses alongside their acting careers,” she noted, highlighting the multi-dimensional roles women play in sustaining the industry.
However, it was her candid admission about receiving luxury gifts that quickly grabbed public attention.
“Women have admirers,” she said. “Me, who is married, I know how many people have gifted me things — women and men. They’ll just see me and say, ‘Omotola, I’m sending you this.’ They’ve gifted me a car before.”
When asked whether she returned the vehicle because she was married at the time, the actress responded bluntly: “No, why would I return the car?”
Omotola credited her husband’s confidence and security for preventing any tension over such gestures. Describing him as “the most secure human being you can ever meet,” she suggested that self-assurance is essential when married to a public figure of her stature.
“Think about it,” she quipped. “How would you marry an Omosexy if you’re not secure?”
Her remarks have since sparked mixed reactions online, with many praising her transparency and others debating boundaries in marriage and celebrity culture.
