Vice President Kashim Shettima has stated that the Tinubu administration’s approach to budgeting goes beyond survival and is focused on strategic economic transformation that promotes sustainable national growth.
Speaking on Wednesday at the 15th Mechanical Engineering Distinguished Lecture, hosted by the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers in Abuja, Shettima emphasized the importance of precision and accountability in public finance, likening effective budgeting to the principles of engineering.
He highlighted the deep connection between governance and engineering, stressing that national budgets must be handled with the same deliberate care that engineers apply to technical designs and machinery.
“What if we approached the national budget the way an engineer approaches a machine—each bolt and beam aligned, each output tested against the blueprint?” Shettima asked. “Budget planning must be more than a routine—it should be a calculated, strategic operation rooted in logic and long-term goals.”
According to him, President Tinubu’s administration is institutionalizing this methodical mindset to ensure that every naira spent contributes directly to building a productive, sustainable, and progressive economy.
“We are not just budgeting for survival. We are budgeting for transformation,” Shettima said. “We are building systems that prioritize productivity and long-term growth.”
The Vice President’s remarks underscore the administration’s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and economic reform, positioning budgeting as a tool for national development rather than a stopgap for recurring challenges.
