The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has expressed profound sorrow following the passing of Nigeria’s former President, His Excellency General Muhammadu Buhari.
In an official statement, the President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr Omar Alieu Touray, extended heartfelt condolences to Buhari’s family, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Nigerian people at large.
“ECOWAS salutes the memory of this exceptional statesman, whose invaluable contributions greatly advanced democracy, peace, and regional integration across West Africa and the African continent,” Dr Touray remarked.
The regional body praised Buhari’s enduring commitment to fostering unity, stability, and economic cooperation within the sub-region. His legacy, they noted, would continue to inspire generations of leaders dedicated to the ideals of good governance and African solidarity.
“May his soul rest in paradise,” the statement concluded.
