It appears Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s love story may have had a behind-the-scenes matchmaker, who could be A$AP Rocky’s mother.
Speaking on the New York Times Popcast, the rapper revealed that long before their friendship turned romantic, his mom had been encouraging him to take things further with Rihanna. Even when they were just friends, she was convinced the superstar singer was “the one.”
“Mothers know best,” Rocky joked, admitting that she had been right all along.
At the time, however, Rocky explained that neither he nor Rihanna was ready for a serious relationship, despite the strong connection they shared. Still, he confessed he always had a soft spot for her.
Reflecting on their journey, Rocky said he is grateful their romance began when it did, noting that their bond goes beyond attraction. According to him, the couple shares deep cultural ties, similar backgrounds, and a strong sense of family.
“We were on the same page,” he said. “Born the same year. My dad is from her country. When I go back, I get to see both sides of my family.”
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky first met at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, where they formed a close friendship that lasted for years. In 2020, that friendship blossomed into a romantic relationship, and the pair have been inseparable ever since.
The celebrity couple now shares three children; RZA, Riot, and Rocki and continues to spark speculation about a possible secret marriage, especially after Rocky has repeatedly referred to Rihanna as his “wife” in interviews.
Rocky’s revelation only reinforces what many believe: sometimes, mothers really do know best even when it comes to matters of the heart.
