The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has reiterated her administration’s commitment to structural development and infrastructural upgrades at the NUJ FCT Council Secretariat in Abuja, identifying it as a major priority for 2026.

Comrade Ike disclosed this on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, while receiving a delegation of key stakeholders from the FCTA Chapel of the Union, who paid her a New Year courtesy visit at her office located at No. 4, Ekukinam Street, Utako, Abuja.

She described the visit as a thoughtful and encouraging gesture, expressing appreciation to the delegation for recognising the efforts of her administration. The NUJ Chairman also urged Council members to brace for the financial responsibilities that would accompany the planned infrastructural upgrades, stressing that the proposed improvements are critical to repositioning the Council for greater efficiency and relevance.

According to her, strengthening the Secretariat’s structure would significantly enhance the Union’s operational capacity and service delivery.

Reflecting on the significance of the visit, Comrade Ike said her leadership philosophy is rooted in selfless service and impact-driven unionism.

“I was raised to give without keeping records, but it is deeply touching to see that our modest efforts are being noticed and appreciated. This recognition strengthens our resolve to do even more,” she said.

She further reaffirmed that welfarism remains a central focus of her administration, noting that the Council has adopted a gradual but sustainable approach to improving members’ welfare.

“Last year, we distributed 10kg of rice to members. We agreed there was no need to stagnate at that level. By taking incremental steps, we have now been able to distribute 25kg of rice at this critical period,” she added.

Earlier, the Chairman of the FCTA Chapel, Comrade Ngozi Ufomba, explained that the visit was organised to appreciate the NUJ FCT Council leadership for its positive impact on members’ welfare and overall well-being.

She commended Comrade Ike and her Executive Council for meeting members’ expectations and wished the administration a successful and productive 2026.

Also speaking, a former Chairman of the Credentials Committee during the 2021 NAWOJ FCT election and Deputy Director of Information, FCTA, Comrade Josie Mudasiru, said the visit symbolised the Chapel’s solidarity and sincere appreciation for the Council Chairman and her team.

Comrade Mudasiru, who is also the Spokesperson of the FCT Women Affairs Secretariat, praised Comrade Ike’s inclusive leadership style and consistent engagement with members of the Union.

In her remarks, the initiator of the visit and former member of the Council’s Credentials Committee, Comrade Sarah Udogbo, said the initiative was inspired by biblical principles of gratitude and encouragement. Quoting Luke 5:1–4, she noted that the delegation was motivated to “launch out” in appreciation of the Chairman’s commitment to service.

Similarly, a former Assistant Secretary of the Council and current member of the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee, Comrade Emmanuel Tortiv, described the Grace Ike administration as inclusive and stabilising.

Comrade Tortiv, who is also the Team Lead, Corporate Communications at the Abuja Enterprise Agency, observed that many former critics of the administration have since become supporters, having acknowledged the Chairman’s leadership capacity and performance.

“After the turbulence that marked your emergence, the environment is now stabilised, and the path is clear for greater achievements,” he said, while praying for a year of expanded accomplishments and renewed grace for the Council leadership.

The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a New Year hamper to the NUJ FCT Council Chairman.

Comrade Ike was accompanied by the Vice Chairman, Comrade Ndambabo Yahaya. Members of the visiting delegation included Comrade Ngozi Ufomba, Comrade Josie Mudasiru, former Chapel Chairman Comrade Kalu Emetu, Comrade Sarah Udogbo, Comrade Emmanuel Tortiv, Comrade Winnie Tanu, Comrade Obiageli Eze, and Comrade Nneka Enereulor.
