A tragic auto accident on the Kano-Maiduguri Road, beneath the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange Flyover in Hotoro, has left at least 23 people dead and 48 others injured.
The crash occurred on February 13, 2025, at approximately 9:50 p.m. when a speeding trailer carrying goods and passengers lost control and crashed under the bridge.
According to Umar Matazu, the Kano State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the vehicle was overloaded with 71 passengers, including 67 adults and four children. Emergency responders from the FRSC quickly arrived at the scene to provide assistance.
The injured victims were rushed to Murtala Mohammed General Hospital for urgent medical care, while the bodies of the deceased were evacuated.
Expressing his condolences, Matazu urged drivers to avoid overloading trailers with goods, animals, and passengers, warning that such practices significantly increase the risk of fatal crashes.
Following the incident, the FRSC cleared the wreckage, restoring normal traffic flow. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to road safety and called on motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
