ECOWAS Engages Togo on Regional Agricultural Risk Management Ahead of Lomé Workshop

As preparations intensify for a major regional workshop on agricultural risk management in West Africa, the Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture at the ECOWAS Commission, Massandjé TOURE-LITSE, has led a high-level mission to Togo’s Ministry of Agriculture.

The visit, which took place on in Lomé, was part of broader engagements ahead of the Regional Workshop on the Capitalization of PARM Experiences and the formulation of a new Regional Agricultural Risk Management Program.

The workshop is targeted at bringing together ECOWAS Member States and development partners.

During the mission, the ECOWAS delegation held consultations with key stakeholders, including representatives of the European Union Delegation to Togo, the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID), and the French Development Agency (AFD).

Commissioner Toure-Litse emphasized the importance of building regional resilience in the face of increasing agricultural risks linked to climate change, market volatility, and other vulnerabilities facing smallholder farmers in the region.

The forthcoming workshop aims to consolidate lessons learned from PARM—the Platform for Agricultural Risk Management—and build consensus on a coordinated regional strategy to address food security and agricultural sustainability.
