President Bola Tinubu has approved the formation of an inter-ministerial committee to coordinate a befitting state burial for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London on Sunday, July 13, at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness.

The announcement was made on Monday in Abuja by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris. He revealed that the committee would work closely with the Katsina State Government and the Buhari family to organise a dignified and solemn series of events to honour the late president’s legacy.

In addition, President Tinubu directed 25 members of the Federal Executive Council to attend the burial ceremony and remain in Daura for the third-day prayers scheduled for Wednesday.

As a mark of national respect, the president also declared a seven-day national mourning period, commencing Sunday, July 13, during which flags are to be flown at half-staff across the country.
