Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, delivered a dominant performance at the 2025 FIBA Afrobasket, dismantling defending champions Tunisia 87-66 in Luanda, Angola.
The game began with a blistering start from Nigeria, as Houston Rockets guard Josh Okogie inspired an early 10-0 lead. By the end of the first quarter, the scoreboard read 29-16 in favour of the 2015 champions. TheI momentum continued into halftime, with D’Tigers extending the gap to 48-33.
Tunisia struggled to recover, trailing 68-47 by the third quarter. The final buzzer confirmed Nigeria’s superiority, sealing a statement win that puts them top of Group B.
Okogie was the undisputed star, dropping 33 points — the highest by any Nigerian player since 2021 — while Ike Nwamu, Caleb Agada, Talib Zanna, and Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu added depth to the squad’s firepower.
The victory follows Nigeria’s 77-59 triumph over Madagascar earlier in the week. Next up, D’Tigers face Cameroon on Sunday in a clash that will determine knockout stage seeding.
Nigeria, whose sole Afrobasket title came in 2015, will look to emulate the D’Tigress, who recently secured a record fifth consecutive women’s crown.
