Emir of Ilorin, Muslim Media Group Condemn Murder of Student, Call for Justice

The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWGN) have expressed deep sorrow over the brutal killing of Hafsoh Lawal, a final-year student at Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, allegedly murdered by Abdulrahman Bello, an acclaimed ‘alfa.’

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, the Emir condemned the act, describing it as “unfortunate, alien, and a regrettable act of wickedness.” He urged parents, guardians, and community members to remain vigilant and ensure their children associate only with individuals of proven character.

Alhaji Sulu-Gambari further called for decisive action against idleness and loitering among youths, emphasizing the need to promote dignity in labor. He also urged religious leaders, particularly Imams across Kwara State, to use their Friday sermons to reinforce moral values, respect for human life, and peaceful coexistence.

Similarly, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria, through its National Coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, demanded swift justice for Hafsoh Lawal. The group called on the government to expedite the trial of the suspect and enforce the execution of past death sentences for convicted murderers, warning that failure to act decisively could encourage further violent crimes.

The group also urged law enforcement agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and prosecution, stressing that justice must be served to deter future offenders.
