FRSC Rolls Out Massive Easter Patrol to Curb Road Crashes, Enforce Traffic Laws

As the Easter season begins, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a nationwide Special Patrol Operation aimed at ensuring safety and free movement on Nigeria’s highways. The operation, which runs for eight days, kicked off today under the directive of Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed.

Speaking from the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja, the Corps Marshal emphasized that all Commanding Officers have been instructed to fully deploy personnel for maximum visibility, quick clearance of obstructions, and general traffic management throughout the festive period.

According to Mohammed, the operation is focused on reducing road crashes, fatalities, and injuries, as well as ensuring swift response to accident victims and maintaining uninterrupted public education on road safety. He added that traffic law enforcement will be intensified nationwide, with over 200 Mobile Courts activated to prosecute violators swiftly.

In terms of logistics, the FRSC has rolled out an extensive arsenal: 743 patrol vehicles, 184 administrative vehicles, 92 ambulances, 144 motorcycles, and 23 tow trucks. The teams will also be equipped with reflective jackets, traffic cones, tyre pressure gauges, digital breathalyzers, and extricating tools for emergencies.

To bolster rescue operations, 23 Help Areas have been established across the country alongside 15 dedicated traffic control camps. These locations will be manned around the clock to identify and address traffic bottlenecks in real time.

“A Situation Room has been set up at the National Headquarters to monitor activities, collate data, and support timely communication with field commands and stakeholders,” Mohammed stated.

He also noted that the operation would leverage 28 Road Traffic Crash Clinics and 53 Zebra points, all reinforced with 92 ambulances to ensure timely medical intervention where necessary.

The Corps Marshal urged commanding officers to collaborate closely with local stakeholders, including security agencies, for effective enforcement and support throughout the operation.

Reassuring Nigerians of the Corps’ commitment to safety, Mohammed wished the public a safe and peaceful Easter celebration, reiterating FRSC’s resolve to uphold discipline and order on the nation’s roads.
