The Delta State Government has announced that more than 250,000 residents have benefitted from various empowerment initiatives in the past two years, under the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, during a press briefing in Asaba on Wednesday. The announcement highlights the achievements of Governor Oborevwori’s government ahead of its second anniversary, scheduled for May 29, 2025.

According to Aniagwu, the empowerment initiatives — including the widely impactful D-CARES grant — are part of the administration’s commitment to its MORE Agenda, aimed at enhancing economic opportunities, infrastructure, and public services across Delta State.

“As part of preparations to mark our two years in office, several projects have been completed and lined up for inauguration. However, due to the sheer volume, not all will be commissioned personally by the Governor,” Aniagwu stated.

Key Projects Completed

Among the landmark infrastructure projects ready for commissioning are the Beneku Bridge, Ishiagu-Ewulu Road and Bridge, Upper and Lower Erejuwa Roads in Warri, erosion control works in Okpanam, and the Olomoro-Igbide Road. Others include the Otolokpo-Boji-Boji Owa Road, Akumazi-Owere-Olubor Road, and Obi-Ibabu Road.

In the healthcare sector, the government has installed new medical equipment at Asaba Specialist Hospital, Warri Central Hospital, and the Delta State University Teaching Hospital in Oghara. These upgrades are aimed at improving healthcare delivery and reducing the need for residents to seek medical services outside the state.

Focus on Coastal Communities

Aniagwu further noted that the Oborevwori administration has prioritized infrastructure in previously underserved coastal and riverine communities. Projects like the ongoing Trans-Warri bridges and access roads to creek settlements, as well as the revived Ayakoromo Bridge in Burutu Local Government Area, are expected to significantly enhance connectivity and local economies.

“Governor Oborevwori remains committed to inclusive development. That’s why work has resumed on key projects connecting riverine communities to the upland. We recently visited Ode-Itsekiri, and progress on the Trans-Warri bridges is impressive,” Aniagwu added.

Governance Without Distraction

To maintain momentum, the Governor has directed cabinet members and agency heads to stay focused on delivering projects and services. Aniagwu also assured that all executed projects are promptly certified and paid for, reflecting the administration’s commitment to transparency and prudent resource management.

While some projects will be formally commissioned by Governor Oborevwori, others may be inaugurated by members of the State Executive Council due to the high number of completed initiatives.

Conclusion

As Governor Oborevwori’s administration marks its second year, Delta State continues to witness substantial strides in infrastructure, healthcare, and community development, reinforcing its pledge to deliver on the promises of the MORE Agencies.
