The Kano State Police Command has apprehended a suspected serial motorcycle thief allegedly responsible for at least 12 cases of motorcycle theft across the state.
In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the arrest followed a report filed by a resident of Dorawa Quarters in Kano metropolis. The complainant reported that an unknown individual had entered his shop under the guise of purchasing a motorcycle. During a test ride on a Lifan Hajoe model motorcycle, the suspect allegedly absconded with the vehicle.
Acting swiftly, police operatives launched an intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of 45-year-old Dahiru Jibrin, a resident of Hotoro Quarters, Kano. The stolen motorcycle was recovered during the operation.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to his involvement in multiple motorcycle thefts and has so far been linked to at least 12 reported cases,” Kiyawa stated.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, lauded the efforts of the officers involved in the arrest and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state. He also cautioned residents to exercise caution when dealing with strangers seeking to test drive vehicles.
The Command urged individuals who may have been victims of similar incidents to come forward and assist with ongoing investigations.
