President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles for winning the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, describing the achievement as one that “feels good like gold.”

In a statement released on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the Nigerian national team for bouncing back from their semi-final disappointment against host nation Morocco.

The statement, titled ‘President Tinubu congratulates Super Eagles on AFCON bronze medal’, noted that the players once again demonstrated the determination, resilience, and can-do spirit that define Nigeria.

Tinubu commended the Super Eagles for their mental strength after losing to Morocco on penalties in the semi-finals last Wednesday, a result that dashed the nation’s hopes of reaching the final.

“Despite their impressive run in the tournament, the Eagles were disappointed in the semi-final match. However, they remained undaunted and exhibited the resilience of the Nigerian spirit, which has now paid off,” the President said.

Nigeria secured the bronze medal after defeating seven-time champions Egypt in a penalty shootout following regulation time, during which the Super Eagles dominated proceedings.

Tinubu said Nigerians would be proud as the team receive their hard-earned bronze medals on Sunday in Rabat, Morocco.

“Thank you, our gallant Super Eagles. Thank you, our national team players. This bronze medal surely feels good like gold,” he added.
