South Korean actress Kim Sae-ron, 24, was found dead in her Seongsu-dong apartment, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

According to police, a friend discovered her body at approximately 4:55 PM (07:55 GMT). Investigators have ruled out foul play, though an official inquiry into the cause of death is ongoing.

Kim, once considered one of South Korea’s most promising young stars, first gained recognition as a child actress. Born in Seoul in 2000, she made her breakthrough in the 2009 film A Brand New Life, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. She later starred in The Man from Nowhere (2010), South Korea’s highest-grossing film of the year, and the 2012 thriller The Neighbour, earning widespread acclaim.

Her other notable works include the 2014 film A Girl at My Door and the 2016 television drama Mirror of the Witch.

Kim largely withdrew from public life in 2022 following a DUI incident, for which she was fined 20 million won (£11,000) in April 2023. Her last role was in Netflix’s 2023 drama Bloodhounds, though reports suggest much of her performance was removed due to the controversy.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her passing.
