The fourth and final suspect linked to the killing of 22-year-old Nigerian e-hailing driver, Isaac Satlat, has surrendered to police in Atteridgeville, South Africa.
Police confirmed that the suspect handed himself over and is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court in the coming days.
Earlier the same day, three co-accused — Dikeledi Tears Phela, Gositsiane Machidi and McClaren Mushwana — made a brief appearance in court, where they abandoned their bail applications and were remanded in custody.
The matter was adjourned until next week to allow investigators to conclude further inquiries.
Confirming the development, Mavela Masondo, spokesperson for the Gauteng Police, said all four suspects are facing charges of premeditated murder, aggravated robbery and hijacking.
“With the surrender of the fourth suspect, police are confident that all individuals linked to this heinous crime are now in custody,” Masondo said. “Investigations are continuing to ensure a watertight case is presented before the court.”
The charges stem from an incident last week in which Satlat was allegedly attacked after responding to a ride request in Pretoria West.
His vehicle and body were later discovered in Atteridgeville. Graphic footage of the killing, which circulated widely on social media, sparked public outrage in South Africa and Nigeria, with renewed calls for justice and improved safety for e-hailing drivers.
“We appeal to members of the public to allow the legal process to take its course and to refrain from sharing disturbing content online,” Masondo added.
Police said further details would be made as investigations progress.
