The Planning Committee for the Nigeria Union of Journalists 70th Anniversary flagged off a courtesy tour of key media establishments on Thursday, May 15, 2025, to rally support and foster collaboration for the historic event.

Led by the Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee and Deputy National President of the NUJ, Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde, the delegation visited prominent media houses including TVC, Trust Media Group, and Arise Television, where they were warmly received by top management teams.

In her remarks, Dr. Oyetunde lauded the unwavering contributions of Nigeria’s media houses to the growth of the journalism profession and the promotion of democratic values. “Since its founding in 1955, the NUJ has played a pivotal role in championing democracy, advocating for press freedom, and fostering national development, despite operating in challenging circumstances,” she said.

Dr. Oyetunde called on media organizations to actively support the anniversary through extensive publicity and coverage, emphasizing that the celebration presents an opportunity to reflect on the resilience and impact of journalists in Nigeria.

In their respective responses, media executives including Ayodele Ozugbakun, Head of TVC Abuja/Northern Operations; Hamza Idris, Acting Editor-in-Chief of Daily Trust; and Adebayo Awosemo, Deputy Managing Director of Arise Television, pledged their full support for the NUJ @70 Anniversary. They commended the Union for its steadfast commitment to ethical journalism and nation-building over the past seven decades.

Other members of the NUJ @70 Planning Committee on the tour included veteran journalist Otunba Gbenga Onayiga, NUJ FCT Council Chairman Comrade Grace Ike, and Assistant National Secretary Comrade Tita Onyebuchi Nze.
