In the midst of mounting hostilities between Iran and Israel, President Donald Trump has called on the Iranian government to urgently return to the negotiating table, warning that Tehran is not gaining the upper hand in the escalating confrontation.
Speaking during a press briefing at the G7 summit in Canada on Monday, Trump disclosed that Iranian officials had signaled interest in opening discussions aimed at de-escalating tensions. The conflict has seen a dangerous exchange of missile strikes and air raids between both nations, raising alarm among global leaders.
According to USA News Today, Trump emphasized the importance of immediate dialogue, stating, “They have to make a deal, and it’s painful for both parties. But I’d say Iran is not winning this war, and they should talk, and they should talk immediately, before it’s too late.”
The former president expressed confidence that Iran was seeking an “off-ramp” from the crisis, underscoring that diplomacy remained the only viable path to avert further bloodshed and regional instability.
Tensions in the Middle East have sharply intensified since Friday, following an unprecedented wave of Israeli airstrikes involving over 200 fighter jets targeting key military and nuclear installations inside Iran. The raids reportedly resulted in the deaths of several top Iranian generals and nuclear scientists, prompting retaliatory attacks from Tehran.
The Biden administration, alongside other Western allies, has consistently advocated for restraint and a return to diplomatic channels, warning that continued military escalation could ignite a broader conflict with devastating humanitarian consequences.
