His Excellency Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone and Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, has concluded a series of high-level visits to Guinea-Bissau, The Gambia, Cape Verde, and Senegal.

The visits were aimed at consolidating support from fellow leaders and reinforcing regional collaboration to address pressing challenges.

In each country, President Bio was warmly received by his counterparts—President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau, President Adama Barrow of The Gambia, President José Maria Neves of Cape Verde, and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal. The leaders congratulated him on his election as ECOWAS Chairman and reaffirmed their commitment to working with him to advance peace, security, and economic integration across West Africa.

President Bio expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve at this critical moment, stressing the importance of collective action to confront terrorism, strengthen democracy, and boost regional trade. He also emphasized the need to engage all ECOWAS member states, including those in political transition, and called for stronger ties with the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).

These diplomatic engagements highlight the importance of cohesive leadership within ECOWAS as the region confronts complex political, security, and economic challenges. President Bio pledged to draw from the experience of past chairpersons to deliver meaningful progress during his tenure.

Just last week, he held similar visits to Togo, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire as part of his regional consultations.
