Nigerian Navy officer Lt. A.M. Yerima, who recently made headlines after a heated confrontation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reportedly survived an assassination attempt in Abuja.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday evening around 6:30 p.m. The officer was said to have been trailed by unidentified men dressed in black and driving in two unmarked Hilux vans with no number plates.

The vehicles allegedly followed him from the NIPCO Filling Station off the Kubwa Expressway to Gado Nasco Way.

Sensing danger, Lt. Yerima reportedly executed a “strategic maneuver” and successfully evaded the suspected assailants.

Sources familiar with the incident stated that security agencies have launched an investigation, noting that further details are being withheld so as not to compromise ongoing efforts.

This development is coming just days after Lt. Yerima was involved in a tense face-off with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over a disputed land site in Gaduwa District.

The altercation captured on video, sparked nationwide debate and triggered intervention from the Presidency, which ordered an immediate halt to the demolition exercise at the centre of the dispute.

The confrontation also ignited outrage among military veterans across the country. Many criticised Wike for verbally insulting the officer during the exchange and condemned calls for disciplinary action against Yerima.
