The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has issued a public and heartfelt apology to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government, and millions of football-loving Nigerians following the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In an emotional statement on X formerly Twitter, the Federation described Sunday’s defeat to DR Congo in the Africa Play-off Final in Rabat as “a moment of profound sadness for Nigerian football.”

For a nation where the Super Eagles symbolize unity, hope, and national pride, missing out on the World Cup for the second consecutive cycle has been deeply disappointing.

The NFF acknowledged the weight of expectations Nigerians continue to place on the team, stressing that the technical crew and players fully understand the magnitude of the setback.

“We recognise the passion, sacrifice, and unwavering support of a country that has always stood firmly behind its team through triumphs and trials,” the statement read. “We also accept that our collective effort did not deliver the outcome this nation deserved.”

While the apology marks a significant moment of accountability, the NFF said it remains committed to rebuilding confidence, restoring pride, and preparing the national team for future international competitions.
