The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has extended warm greetings to Christian and Muslim faithful as they commence the sacred seasons of Lent and Ramadan, calling on Nigerians to use the period to pray for unity, peace and national development.
In a goodwill message Ike described Lent and Ramadan as solemn periods marked by fasting, prayer and deep reflection, noting that they underscore shared values of sacrifice, discipline, compassion and love for humanity.
“These solemn periods of fasting, prayer and reflection are powerful reminders of the enduring values of sacrifice, discipline, compassion and love for humanity,” she said. “They offer us a unique opportunity to draw closer to God, strengthen our moral resolve, and recommit ourselves to peaceful coexistence and national development.”
She urged adherents of both faiths to use the holy season to pray fervently for Nigeria, its leaders and the continued peace and security of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), especially at a time when the country is seeking unity, stability and progress.
“At a time when our nation yearns for unity, stability and progress, I urge all adherents to use this holy season to pray fervently for Nigeria, for our leaders and for the continued peace and security of the Federal Capital Territory,” Ike stated.
The NUJ FCT chairman also reaffirmed the commitment of journalists to ethical and responsible reporting that promotes harmony and mutual understanding across the country’s diverse communities.
“As journalists, we remain committed to promoting truth, fairness and responsible reportage that fosters harmony and understanding among our diverse people,” she said, adding that the sacred season should inspire citizens to become “ambassadors of peace, tolerance and mutual respect.”
On behalf of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, FCT Council, Ike wished Muslim and Christian faithful a spiritually rewarding Ramadan and Lenten season, expressing hope that prayers and sacrifices would usher in renewed hope and greater prosperity in Nigeria.
