A major fire disaster was averted at Alagbede Tipper Garage in Ilorin South Local Government Area, as the Kwara State Fire Service successfully saved 39 trucks from destruction.
According to a statement by the agency’s Head of Media and Publicity, Hassan Adekunle, firefighters swiftly responded to a distress call, arriving to find several trucks engulfed in flames. Despite the intensity of the fire, their timely intervention limited the damage to only three out of the 42 trucks in the garage.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire originated from a waste collection truck that had been left parked with refuse inside. The refuse reportedly contained smoldering charcoal, which ignited and spread to two other trucks before the flames were extinguished.
Commenting on the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, urged the public to adopt strict fire safety measures to prevent similar occurrences. He reiterated the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through proactive prevention and rapid emergency response.
