The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has recorded 37 cases of human trafficking in Bauchi State over the past year, according to Mr. Abdurrahman Abdullahi, the agency’s Head of Operations in the state.

Speaking to journalists after a media parley on the need to domesticate and enforce the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Law, Abdullahi revealed that NAPTIP secured a significant conviction in February 2025.

“The perpetrator was sentenced to five years in prison and fined two million naira,” he stated, emphasizing that the penalty aligns with the agency’s amended legal framework.

He further highlighted NAPTIP’s efforts in strengthening grassroots awareness campaigns to educate communities on the risks and consequences of human trafficking.

Abdullahi urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the agency for swift action. He also cautioned young people, parents, and guardians against falling victim to traffickers who operate under deceptive pretenses.
